MIESDA Strengthens China–Malaysia Trade Cooperation at CAOP Economic Exchange Session in Beijing

19 November 2025, Beijing — The Malaysia International Economic and Social Development Association (MIESDA) participated in the Malaysia Special Session of the “International Economic and Trade Exchange Series,” organized by the China Association of Port-of-Entry (CAOP) at the Beijing Friendship Palace. The meeting, themed “Promoting China–Malaysia Trade and Investment Facilitation,” brought together Malaysian and Chinese government representatives, industry leaders, and major enterprises to deepen cooperation in port infrastructure, logistics connectivity, and industry development.

The Malaysian delegation included six invited representatives from MIESDA, Chairman Yang Mulia Tengku Faizwa, Mr Stanley Hu and Mr Ngai Chee Yong; the Embassy of Malaysia in China, His Excellency Trade Commissioner of MITI, Niqman Rafaee, CAOP Vice Presidents Wang Wei and Yang Hao Long were present, with the session chaired by Vice President and Secretary-General Shen Wei.

The event created a direct dialogue platform where Chinese enterprises engaged Malaysian representatives with questions on operational challenges, market-entry procedures, crossborder logistics, compliance requirements, and overseas business establishment. Malaysian delegates provided timely responses, helping address bottlenecks faced by Chinese companies expanding into Malaysia.

 

Key Highlights of MIESDA’s Participation

During the meeting, it was emphasized that China–Malaysia relations have achieved significant milestones over 50 years of diplomatic partnership, built on mutual respect, trust, and shared long-term strategic interests.

His excellency, outlined the many advantages Malaysia offers to global investors, including:

  • A stable, transparent, and innovation-driven investment environment
  • National policies such as the National Investment Aspirations (NIA) that support highvalue industries
  • Attractive tax incentives, reinvestment allowances, and tailored industrial facilitation measures
  • A diversified economy with strengths in E&E, palm oil, rubber products, aerospace, machinery, and oil & gas

Malaysia also identified four major emerging sectors where bilateral cooperation can be further expanded:

  1. Green energy and sustainable development
  2. Digital economy and technological innovation
  3. Logistics & port connectivity, including cross-border e-commerce infrastructure
  4. Higher education, research partnerships, and talent exchange

These areas were recognized as high-growth pillars aligned with China’s Belt and Road Initiative and Malaysia’s MADANI Economic Framework.

Highlights from Yang Mulia Tengku Faizwa’s Remarks

Representing MIESDA, Chairman Yang Mulia Tengku Faizwa Tengku Razif expressed gratitude to CAOP for organizing the dialogue and commended both sides for their sustained efforts in enhancing bilateral trade cooperation.

She highlighted the following key messages:

  • The CAOP–MIESDA dialogue is a timely and strategic platform for converting policy alignment into practical, implementable outcomes.
  • Malaysia is committed to supporting green transition efforts, industrial innovation, and sustainable development through cross-border cooperation.
  • Both countries should leverage their strengths to build integrated logistics networks, enhance port collaboration, and improve supply-chain efficiency across the region.
  • Emerging sectors such as digital trade, financial technology, smart manufacturing, and sustainable agriculture offer significant opportunities for collaboration.
  • MIESDA will continue serving as a bridge between Malaysian and Chinese enterprises, enabling practical business matchmaking, investment promotion, and SME support initiatives.

Yang Mulia Tengku also noted that strengthening higher education collaboration—particularly through academic exchanges, joint research, and talent development—will play a vital role in supporting long-term bilateral growth.

Enterprise Engagement and Cooperation Outcomes

During the interactive session, representatives from Chinese enterprises, including Hainan Airport Group, raised questions on:

  • Port investment and development opportunities
  • Flight route expansion and aviation cooperation
  • Cross-border logistics and shipping optimization
  • Establishing offices and subsidiaries in Malaysia
  • Human-resource compliance and staffing requirements
  • Customs digitalization and trade facilitation

Malaysian representatives provided direct, practical guidance and encouraged businesses to leverage the strengths of Malaysia’s regulatory frameworks and industrial ecosystems.

Both CAOP and MIESDA agreed to:

  • Establish a structured mechanism for regular enterprise-to-enterprise engagement
  • Co-organize business dialogues, industrial matchmaking sessions, and investment roadshows
  • Support SMEs through digital trade platforms, sustainability programs, and financial training initiatives
  • Promote cooperation in sectors such as smart manufacturing, sustainable agriculture, logistics digitalization, and tourism development

Moving Forward & Conclusion

CAOP concluded the session by affirming its commitment to transforming the dialogue’s outcomes into actionable cooperation and continuing to facilitate China–Malaysia trade and investment linkages. The meeting reinforced the importance of strengthening collaboration at both governmental and enterprise levels and highlighted MIESDA’s ongoing role in advancing bilateral economic integration.

This event marks another significant milestone in MIESDA’s mission to foster sustainable development, international collaboration, and economic growth between Malaysia and China.
